Jennifer Aniston Filmography

The following is a list of every film that Jen has starred in.  I’ve attempted to include:
Film name, date of release, gross revenue
Summary
Link to review
Photos of Jen from each film, hopefully including her at the premier
Link to any interviews she did

Leprechaun
Year 1993
Gross (US) $8.6 million
This is a horror/comedy movie about a leprechaun who hunts down a family he thinks stole his pot of gold.  He kills the wife, gets locked in a crate, and subsequently terrorizes the folks that end up moving into the house.  It was followed by no less than five sequels.

She’s the One
Year 1996
Gross (US) $9.5 million
Describing the plot of this movie is basically impossible.  It is a romantic comedy.  It involves a taxi drive, and people cheating on each other, and former prostitutes, and regret.  Considering it was Jen’s second movie, it was a good move for her to star opposite Cameron Diaz, which was a big boost to the movie’s popularity.

Picture Perfect
Year 1997
Gross (US) $31.4 million
Another romantic comedy, the movie unfolds when Jen’s character fakes a relationship with a casual acquaintance to help her seem more stable and get a promotion at work.  She asks him to break off the fake relationship.  Awful things ensue, but they eventually end up together and all ends well.  Kevin Bacon and Jay Mohr were also in the movie, lending to its starpower.

The Object of My Affection
Year 1998
Gross (US) $29.2 million
Yep, you guessed it: another romantic comedy.  Jen is a single social worker in New York who gets pregnant.  She has romantic feelings for her gay male friend, and they decide to raise the baby together.  Things get a little complicated, and of course funny, after that.

Office Space
Year 1999
Gross (US) $10.8 million
This comedy wasn’t a huge success, but it actually developed quite a cult following and its zingy one-liners seem to be frequently quoted now, even decades later.  It depicts a team of white-collar workers who are fed up with their jobs and incite all kinds of mischief and mayhem in the office.

The Iron Giant
Year 1999
Gross (US) $23.2 million
This was a bit of a departure for Jen, as she did a voice-over for an animated film.  A boy discovers a robot that fell from outer space, and he and a friend try to keep it safe from the US Government.  It was fairly well-regarded by critics, and the $23M domestic gross was nothing to sneeze at, but it performed poorly considering its budget of $70-80M.

Rock Star
Year 2001
Gross (US) $17 million
A wannabe rock star becomes a real rock star, and his girlfriend (who happens to be our beloved Jennifer Aniston) goes along for the ride.  This is a fairly dramatic film, and does a good job walking viewers through what it might feel like to have a life totally disrupted by stardom and fame.

The Good Girl
Year 2002
Gross (US) $14 million
This was a bit of a black comedy for Jen.  She plays a character who is depressed and married to a pot-smoking jerk.  She meets a new guy at work, and has an affair with him.  They are outed, and when she tries to break off the relationship with him he gets crazy.  He ends up stealing some money and committing suicide, and she is stuck with her husband forever more.

Bruce Almighty
Year 2003
Gross (US) $242 million
I actually had to check that box office gross twice.  It’s a huge amount, and must be one of the first blockbuster, runaway financial successes that Jen participated in.  In all fairness, the movie was this successful at least in part due to the writing, directing, and other starts – one of whom was Jim Carrey.  A disgruntled reporter complains to God and is then granted divine powers to see if he can do a better job.  Jen of course plays the loyal girlfriend of the main character.

Along Came Polly
Year 2004
Gross (US) $88 million
This is one of my favorite Jenifer Aniston movies, mainly because I find it hilarious.  A guy catches his newlywed wife cheating on him with a scuba instructor on their honeymoon.  He breaks off the relationship and eventually begins dating Jen’s character.  When his wife tries to reconcile he ends up with Jen after a series of blunders and misadventures.

Derailed
Year 2005
Gross (US) $36 million
This was a fairly dark movie, uncharacteristic of Jen and unlike many of her romantic comedies.  Clive Owen who plays the main character, is struggling with the relationship with his wife and meets Jen’s character.  They begin an affair, but are terrorized by a burglar who beats and robs him and rapes her.  He is then blackmailed by the burglar due to his affair, and he is involved in a murder.  Eventually, Jen’s character is killed, and Clive is left wondering if she had set him up or if she loved him.

Rumor Has It
Year 2005
Gross (US) $43 million
It’s back to a romantic comedy for Jen.  Crazy plot where her character becomes convinced one of her parent’s isn’t her biological parent.  Then she has an affair, and of course almost loses her boyfriend.  Better explaining this one would take several pages.  This wasn’t my favorite movie, it’s main redeeming grace was our favorite actress.

The Break-Up
Year 2006
Gross (US) $119 million
It is somewhat difficult for Jen to carry a huge budget movie on her own.  I’ve noticed her biggest box office successes are like this one, where she was paired with another start like Vince Vaughn.  This is a romantic comedy with a depressing ending.  Jen’s character is feeling neglected and under-appreciated by her boyfriend, so she breaks up with him to get his attention.  He assumes she does this because she doesn’t love him any more, and things just spiral downhill from there.

Marley & Me
Year 2008
Gross (US) $143 million
Jen took a bit of a back seat to a dog in this movie.  She and her husband move through life with a rambunctious dog, and there are abundant details of pretty much every crazy thing the dog does.  This movie seemed to resonate broadly rather than deeply, appealing to many dog-lovers, Hollywood star lovers, and family folks with its PG rating.

He’s Just Not That into You
Year 2009
Gross (US) $94 million
This is a crazy ensemble of a movie, and seemed to include every star ever known to mankind.  The part that we’re interested in here, that associated with Jen, evolves where she is disappointed that her long term boyfriend doesn’t believe in marriage.  She finally kicks him to the curb.  After that, her life falls apart, with an ill father and immature siblings and other family members doing her wrong.  Neil swoops in and she realizes he is worth the hassle.  They get back together and eventually marry.

The Bounty Hunter
Year 2010
Gross (US) $67 million
This is a fun movie that involves Jen being on the run after jumping bail, with her ex-husband hunting her down to capture the bounty on her head.  They keep out-smarting each other until finally they realize their lives are in danger, whereupon they start cooperating and have a bit of juicy chemistry.

The Switch
Year 2010
Gross (US) $28 million
The description of the plot of this movie doesn’t do it justice – it’s at least this crazy if not more.  Jen plays a character that can’t seem to get her love life straightened out.  She very much wants a baby, so she decides to get artificially inseminated.  Her long-time friend, who is secretly in love with her, switches the sperm samples.  Many years later, when he runs across Jen and her son, he becomes suspicious that her son is indeed his biological son.

Just Go With It
Year 2011
Gross (US) $103 million
Jen plays alongside Adam Sadler here.  She is his assistant, and agrees to cover up a lie he told by pretending to be his soon to be ex wife, so he can win the affection of a gorgeous blonde..  Long-suffering appropriately describes her, as she goes along with his crazy plan and lies.

A Just Go With It scene:

Horrible Bosses
Year 2011
Gross (US) $118 million
As the title implies, the movie is about horrible bosses.  It’s fun to watch Jen in her role, where she makes inappropriate sexual advances towards her employee.  The employees of these horrible bosses decide to try to extract revenge by killing them off.

Wanderlust
Year 2012
Gross (US) $17 million
Picture a couple going through a financial crisis, temporarily living in a hippy commune, being harassed to participate in lovefests and illegal partaking of hallucinogenic drugs, and an occasional legal dispute.  The plot wanders around in crazy fashion, but at least we get to see Jen looking pretty.

We’re the Millers
Year 2013
Gross (US) $150 million
The thought of Jen as a stripper must resonate with a few of her fans, as this film did fairly well.  Here, a small-time drug dealer convinces Jen who is a random stripper to go with him and two random teenagers to Mexico to pick up a load of pot.  The idea is they all pose as a family on their summer vacation.

Life of Crime
Year 2014
Gross (US) $265,000
This was easily the lowest grossing film Jen has ever participated in.  In it, she is kidnapped and held for ransom, but her husband refuses to pay as his intention was to divorce here in favor of his new mistress.

Horrible Bosses 2
Year 2014
Gross (US) $54 million
In many respects, this movie didn’t live up to the original considering it only did half the original revenue.  It seems like Jen plays a smaller role here, but does revive that of a sex-addicted psychiatrist.  She basically has sex with everyone in the movie, which definitely lends itself into the thought that she is a superstar and American sex symbol.

Cake
Year 2014
Gross (US) $2 million
This was a gritty performance from Jen as she turns to a dramatic role that highlights here character’s struggle with loss and chronic pain.  She lives in her own head at times, relating to a former participant in her self-help group, and developing a relationship with the lady’s former husband.

She’s Funny That Way
Year 2015
Gross (US) $111 million
This was a  mishmash plot that show Jen playing the therapist daughter taking over her mother’s patients.  There are some hookers, and some guys having affairs, and some guys falling in love with hookers.

Mother’s Day
Year 2016
Gross (US) $32 million
Jen plays a divorced mother coming to grips with her husband marrying a much younger lady.  The movie in general is about folks and their relationships with their moms.

Storks
Year 2016
Gross (US) $73 million
This was an animated film in which Jen plays an overprotective mother

Office Christmas Party
Year 2016
Gross (US) $55 million
Jen plays a bit of a wicked witch here, as an unloved CEO who tries to close a business.  The workers rally around the  idea of throwing an amazing Christmas party to woo a potential client, and make it impossible for Jen to close the business.

The Yellow Birds
Year 2017
